Grand Forks Soccer Success: The GFSA Impact on High School Girls’ Soccer

IMG 9466

Both Grand Forks Central and Red River High School girls’ soccer programs concluded their impressive seasons, with Red River securing a fantastic 3rd place and Central earning a commendable 5th place in the state. This wasn’t just a testament to their talent; it was a powerful display of what consistent dedication and focused player development could achieve. And for us at Grand Forks Sports Academy (GFSA), it was a moment of immense pride in youth soccer excellence.

This journey of impact and growth hadn’t gone unnoticed. We were recently honored to be featured in a local news article by the Grand Forks Herald and a segment on WDAY News, specifically highlighting how focused soccer training in Grand Forks was elevating local soccer talent. It’s truly special to see the dedication of our athletes and coaches recognized publicly, reinforcing the difference we’re making in our Grand Forks soccer community.

Over the past couple of years, we’d had the distinct privilege of working with over 40 athletes from both the Central and Red River soccer programs. Whether they trained with us for a month, a summer, a fall, or consistently through the winter, these young women committed to “The GFSA Way.”

The GFSA Way: Unlocking Potential Through Technical Ability

Many might have looked at the success of these Grand Forks high school soccer teams and wondered, what was the secret formula? To outsiders, this ascent to the top might have seemed like it came from nowhere. But we witnessed it happen before our very eyes. The “secret” was refreshingly simple: dribbling, cutting, receiving, passing, and shooting. And a lot of it.

Our soccer training curriculum at GFSA was built on the foundation of repetition. We believe that true technical ability comes from consistent, deliberate practice until each movement becomes second nature. It was about drilling the “little things” in our Grand Forks training facility, day after day, week after week, in preparation for the “big moments” out on the field. This relentless focus on individual skill development, often honed in our semi-private and private training sessions, formed the backbone of a player’s ability to execute under pressure.

We saw the commitment in these girls firsthand – the extra sessions, the focused effort when no one was cheering, the willingness to refine even the simplest of techniques. This year, it truly felt like opportunity met preparation. These young women were ready, and they showed up when it counted.

From Our Coaches to the State Stage: Grand Forks Soccer Coaching Excellence

The success we witnessed was a direct reflection of the players’ unwavering dedication, coupled with exceptional soccer coaching both within their high school programs and right here at GFSA. We are incredibly grateful for the trust placed in us by these athletes and their families, giving us the opportunity to contribute to their growth.

A special shoutout goes to our GFSA Coaches who were also deeply involved in the success of these programs:

  • George Dubois: Head Coach for Grand Forks Central, and the recipient of this year’s North Dakota State Coach of the Year award – his vision and leadership clearly made an impact.
  • Austin Englerth: Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach for Grand Forks Central, whose passion and dedication to the program were evident in every player’s growth and success.
  • Patrick Colter: Assistant Varsity Coach for Grand Forks Central, who tirelessly worked to refine the team’s capabilities.
  • Brian Gutierrez: Assistant Varsity Coach for Red River, whose relentless dedication to the sport, both on and off the field, profoundly shaped the Roughriders’ journey.

These coaches embody the GFSA commitment to player development, fostering not just skilled athletes, but confident, disciplined individuals.

As Red River returned home with a fantastic 3rd place and Central secured a commendable 5th place in the State Tournament, it wasn’t just a win for the high schools; it was a win for soccer in Grand Forks. It showcases what’s possible when commitment, consistent technical training, and incredible talent converge. We are proud of every GFSA athlete who has contributed to this remarkable success.
